Abstract

Human Rights, Governance and Social Protection Policies are emerging as crucial pillars for sustainable development in Bangladesh. The aim of this study is to explore the relation between Human Rights(WGI) and Sustainable Development Outcome(WDI) in the context of Bangladesh. The data used in this research is secondary data gathered from the World Bank Open Data data sources: World Development Indicators (WDI) and Worldwide Governance Indicators (WGI) presented in CF.csv file. The data includes indicators of Bangladesh from 1995 to 2024, using variables like government effectiveness (GE), rule of law (RL), control of corruption (CC), voice and accountability (VA), poverty rate (POV), literacy rate (LIT), life expectancy (LIFE) and female labor force participation (FLFP). Microsoft Excel was used to perform trend analysis, descriptive analysis and pearson correlation analysis. The governance and development indicators are improving very well in Bangladesh in terms of trend analysis. POV decreased from 43.4% to 5.9%, LIT increased from 47.49% to 79.00%, LIFE rose from 58.24 to 74.93 years and FLFP increased from 26.47% to 43.69%. Based on descriptive analysis, there is a continuous improvement in development indicators and governance indicators. The development indicators (POV, LIT, LIFE) are strongly correlated with each other. The correlation analysis reveals that some governance indicators (RL, GE, CC) shows weaker or even negative relation with development outcomes. The significance of this study is that it combines the dimension of human rights, social protection policies, governance quality, and SDG related development indicators in one framework for the context of Bangladesh. The results indicate that there is a need to improve both human rights frameworks and institutional governance for sustainable development.
