Abstract

"Bangladesh has achieved economic growth, reduction of poverty, health care, and education significantly in the past three decades, but there is still socio-economic inequality between the rural and urban areas in terms of income, workplace, infrastructure, and availability of basic human needs. The relationship between inequality and sustainable development in Bangladesh highlights key challenges and policy priorities for ensuring inclusive and equitable growth. To analyze socioeconomic inequalities and sustainable development, a online authorized data based methodology was adopted. The secondary data were collected form world bank open data 1995-2024 and used Microsoft Excel for trend analysis and correlation. Bangladesh's GDP per capita increased from $309.46 to $2,593.42 over the last three decades. While life expectancy increased from 58.2 to 74.9 years. The country had a major shift in population during that time. People living in cities increasing from 21.6% to 32.67%. including safely managed sanitation increasing to 37.32% and female labor involvement increasing to 38.7%. Also, in 2022 51.5% of people in cities still lived in slums, showing a serious lack of equal urban services. Moreover, official national Gini values show an almost stable growth in purchasing 32.9 in 1995 on 33.4 in 2022. Between 1995 and 2024, Bangladesh's living standards, health, education and economic growth have all greatly improved. But there are still major gaps between rural and urban areas in terms of facilities, employment, income and access to basic needs. In order to ensure fair and sustainable development in the future it is essential to reduce such gaps through inclusive policies. "
