Dhaka, Bangladesh — September 9, 2026: The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication (JMC) of American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) is proud to announce another significant achievement in its commitment to academic excellence, research, and international engagement. Senior faculty member Mr. Niaz Majumdar successfully presented his research paper, titled “Through the Lens: Visualising Culture and Livelihood of Banjara (Gypsy) Community of India,” at the Visual Research in South and Southeast Asia (IVSA) 2026 conference held on September 1, 2026, at South Asian University, New Delhi, India.

The international conference brought together scholars, researchers, academics, and practitioners interested in visual research and the diverse social, cultural, and human realities of South and Southeast Asia. Mr. Majumdar’s participation provided an important opportunity to present research from Bangladesh on the visual representation of the culture, everyday life, and livelihood of the Banjara community of India before an international academic audience.

His research explores the potential of visual approaches to document and understand the cultural practices and lived experiences of a historically marginalised community. By focusing on visualising culture and livelihood, the study contributes to broader discussions on visual research, cultural representation, community identity, and the role of media in documenting social realities.

The successful presentation reflects the growing research engagement of JMC Department at AIUB and its commitment to encouraging faculty members to participate in international academic forums.
