Students meet director, cast and OTT executives ahead of the film's streaming debut
On October 7, the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) community enjoyed an exclusive first look at Chorki’s new romantic comedy Happily Married during a special advance screening at the AIUB Auditorium, one day before the film’s official release on the streaming platform.
The event was organised by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication (JMC) in collaboration with Chorki, the AIUB Film Club (AFC) and the university's Office of Student Affairs (OSA). It brought together AIUB's senior leadership, faculty members and students alongside professionals from Bangladesh's film and over-the-top (OTT) entertainment industry.
Guests from the university included Prof. Dr. Abdur Rahman, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of AIUB; Prof. Dr. Tazul Islam, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS); Dr. Faria Sultana, Associate Dean of FASS; and Prof. Dr. Pradip Panday, Head of the JMC Department.
The film was represented by director Jahid Preetom, actors Arifin Shuvoo and Arefin Zilani, and other members of the cast, along with Masudul Amin Rintu, Head of Operations at Chorki.
Directed by Jahid Preetom, Happily Married follows Anis and Anamika as they navigate love, misunderstandings and the everyday realities of married life. The film premiered on Chorki on October 8.
Welcoming the guests, Prof. Dr. Abdur Rahman stressed the importance of connecting students with professionals from the creative and media industries. Prof. Dr. Pradip Panday spoke of the value of industry exposure and hands-on learning for students preparing for careers in journalism, media and communication.
Speaking to the students, Preetom, Shuvoo, Zilani and Rintu urged them to pursue their ambitions with commitment and to make the most of every opportunity to learn and grow.
The programme closed with remarks from Rani Ellen V. Ramos, Animation Lecturer at the JMC Department, who thanked the university administration, Chorki, the film's team, the AIUB Film Club, OSA, faculty members, students and volunteers.
For JMC students, the screening offered a rare chance to engage directly with leading figures from Bangladesh's film and OTT industry and reflected the department's ongoing effort to bridge classroom learning and professional practice.
